Juniper Canyon Access Survey

To the Juniper Canyon Community:

We are so grateful for the outstanding survey participation regarding access to Juniper Canyon and other safety concerns for this part of our community.  The survey was open for about two months, and overall, we received 938 responses with 86% of the respondents concerned about the lack of a second access point to Juniper Canyon.  This information is critical for helping us prioritize community concerns and address them in the best way possible.  In the next few months, our team will work on the next steps of this process, which includes a meeting the the folks who indicated their interest in helping with this project and organizing another opportunity for community feedback on this matter.  Please watch for updates at JunipcerCanyon.org and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to participate in future meetings.

Sincerely,

Jerry Brummer

Crook County Commissioner

The team has followed up with those who indicated interest in helping identify possible options for addressing a second access in Juniper Canyon and invited them to this Community Meeting. Please feel free to forward this invite to anyone interested in attending; this meeting is open to the public.

Juniper Canyon Meeting
Background

Crook County is growing and development in Juniper Canyon is growing too.  It’s hard to believe that more than 2,000 households use Juniper Canyon Road to get to school, work, and shopping.
Additional lands in the Juniper Canyon area could support another 2,000 houses and we expect increased traffic as a result.
The County has land for a new road but doesn’t have the money to build it.  The County went to the state and federal governments to see if road money is available, but there are a lot of projects in line ahead of this one.  Money may not be available for 5-10 years and even then won’t cover the entire project cost.
Some of the partners and guiding documents the County is working with are Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Crook County Transportation Plan (TSP), Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC), and the City of Prineville Transportation Plan (TSP).
